Introduction

Darul Huda Islamic Academy, an institution par excellence disseminates the Islamic ideas through out the world.  It is situated on the banks of the River Kadalundy, spreading over 11 acres of land (4450 sq. Mtrs) with calm and serene surroundings.  The Foundation stone was laid on 25th December 1983, and started functioning on 26th June 1986.

The historic importance of Darul Huda can be understood only after getting an outlook about the early history of the Muslims in Kerala.

It is said that a group of Sahaba headed by Malik Deenar (R) came to Kerala during the time of the Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon him) in Arabia.  The natives of Kerala warmly welcomed Malik Deenar (R) and his followers.  Attracted by his preachings they began to embrace the Islamic theology whole heartedly.  It was a turning point in the cultural history of India.

Followed by him many other eminent scholars of Islam from Arabia visited Kerala.  Gradually, more and more people of Kerala were attracted to Islam.  After centuries Kerala became a strong-hold  of Allah's Path.

Now the Muslims of Kerala are fortunate enough to be led by a body of eminent scholars and men of action who are fully devoted to the community.  They formed an association of religious scholars namely Samastha Kerala Jameyyathul Ulama in 1925.  Under the noble guidance of Samastha, thousands of Madrasas, which form the backbone of Islam in Kerala began.  A systematic educational curriculum developed by the education board of Samastha made the Kerala Muslims distinct from those of the other states of India.

It is a well-known fact that the present educational setup, which gives emphasis only to the physical well-being of people, has failed miserably in developing the spiritual development of man.  On the other hand the religious scholars who vigorously pursued their Islamic studies found no time in realizing the real importance of modern education.  Language was always a barrier before them.  They could not cope up with the modern changes took place in the society.  It created a wide gap between the learning and practicing of the noble principles.  The ideal role played by the SMF (Sunni Mahallu Federation) is really praise-worthy here.  It is a federation of Mahallaths under the guidance of Muslim leaders-‘Ulama and Umara’.  They found it necessary to bring a new generation fully equipped with the Islamic as well as the modern education to meet the challenges of the time.  To materialize this aspiration Darul Huda Islamic Academy was formed. They developed a wide curriculum for this institution, which would bring a potential group of real scholars who would be able to propagate Islam in vernaculars as well as foreign languages.

Now the managing body of Darul Huda is headed by:

Sayyid Umer Ali Shihab Thangal Panakkad (President)
Mr. Chemmukkan Kunhappu Haji  (Secretary)
Mr. Saidalavi Haji  (Treasurer)
